Dare To Be: The Philosophy Behind AWD

Dare To Be: A Philosophy — AWD editorial image

AWD began with an idea that felt bigger than eyewear: Dare To Be.

At first, I thought of it as an invitation to be bolder—to choose the unexpected path, make the ambitious move, and let the parts of yourself that do not fit become visible.

But building a brand has a way of turning a phrase into a practice. It asks whether you can stand behind what you make, receive the life you have been working toward, and let your point of view exist without over-explaining it.

For me, that work has been less about becoming someone new and more about becoming honest about who I already am. The shape of a frame, the color of an acetate, and the way a campaign feels—each choice carries a belief about how we move through the world.

That is why self-expression matters to AWD. Eyewear can change a silhouette, but it should never erase the person wearing it. The right frame can be a signature, a little armor, or a reminder to take up space on your own terms.

To dare to be is not a performance. It is permission: to be odd, direct, vulnerable, ambitious, soft, or fully yourself. It is the decision to build from truth instead of waiting for outside approval.

That philosophy is still at the center of AWD.
